Gear City Extension

🎯 Objective

Build a moving cardboard model of your choice, using the gears and motor from the torch, and any scraps of cardboard you have at home! This could be anything that you know has circular motion - a ferris wheel, a wind up bucket or a carousel turn table. Email us a photo of your creation at ideas@team.repair for us to share on our platforms!

You will need:

  • Cardboard
  • Screws (from torch)
  • Battery pack (from torch)
  • Motor (from torch)
  • Different sized gears (from torch)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or tape

How to Set Up

  • Work out which direction your gizmo is spinning (on a horizontal plane- like a carousel, or on a vertical plane- like a ferris wheel).
  • Experiment with the order of the gears and arrange them in a way that gives you the desired speed for your gizmo.
  • Connect the motor to one end of the gear train and the designed cardboard gizmo to the other end of the gear train.

Tips for using the generator as a motor with gears!
